Begging favors from the Count was always a tricky business. It could be dangerous, either through another debt piling up, or something worse. Tsuzuki knew, sitting in antechamber of the Hall of Candles, that this particular wish probably didn't have a hope to be granted, lengthening a life was easier than snuffing one, out but he had to try, for Hisoka. Muraki had gone too far this time. He hoped that Muraki was still human enough to have a candle.

When a gout of flame -preceded by the pervious supplicant- shot out the door, Tsuzuki began to reconsidered. A large part of his success with the Count had much to do with him catching the Count in right mood.

"It is such a simple thing to ask!" yelled the man --no, he was something else, some foreign, fey creature in the guise of one. "The soul of a mortal girl, if she dies in this country. It is nothing more than a mere trifle."

Another flame spewed towards the man, who stood his ground. His clothes were singed, but not his pride.

"I need more help. Surely you do not think I can mange the goblins with so little intelligent --"

"JARETH!"

The man glared further, and Tsuzuki backed up, beginning to look at all the exits. The Count was in one of those moods. If he didn't...

Well, shit.

The Count had come out, wreathed by flickering candles, life forces in Japan about to wink out. One -slightly different from the others- passed over his mask, and he took it with one glove. "Do you see this?" he asked, as merciless as snapping bones.

Jareth nodded sharply.

"This is the life force of your beloved Sarah."

Jareth's faced shifted though too many emotions too quickly for Tsuzuki to understand them, but the final one was pained.

"Do not tell me how to do my job. Do not tell me who to kill and when not to. Do not presume, impudent king. Do not draw you fantasies and sing your enchantments here."

"I keep the goblins in check, for all the world," Jareth argued unwisely. "I deserve compensation. I need someone to help, and she fits the description perfectly! She's--"

"Not in love with you," snapped the Count. "I will not make an exception."

Jareth glared.

"Tsuzuki," the Count said, more mildly, but Tsuzuki still fought to not cringe.

"Yes?"

"You and your partner had a recent run-in with that Maruki, yes? A rather deadly one, even for you."

"Yes."

The mask nodded, as if having found the answer. "Very well. Until he has been taken care of, both of you will go back with Jareth, to help oversee the Goblin Kingdom."

"What?" cried Jareth.

Tsuzuki could only trust himself to nod.

The Count left, candles trailing behind.

"Hello," Tsuzuki said tentatively to the fuming man. "Let's go get Hisoka?"

Jareth greeted him with a curse.

Tsuzuki held back his urge to respond in kind.
