Title: Anzu's Boyfriend
Rating: PG
Genre: comedy/ slice of (an odd) life
Summary: Anzu brings her boyfriend back with her to Domino City. The usual ensues.
The first time Anzu fell in love, truly in love, and not just simple lust or longing, it was with a fellow dancer she met in America. She brought him back during the spring break their dance troupe had, and had her mind set to introduce him to her friends.
Sadly, it was Jounochi who met them at the airport --he was the only one who owned a car, rusted and junky, but it was still a car-- and despite having pulled all sorts of pranks and decidedly perverted things on her in high school, he choose that day top become her honorary big brother, much to Anzu's dismay. He growled and grumbled, and told the man in plain, if accented, English that he had better treat Anzu right or else.
Her beau was intimidated by him, but other than silently nodding politely and not touching her, was mostly normal. Anzu was slightly encouraged by that even. Kaiba couldn't be any worse than how Jounochi was acting, so maybe she could introduce him to Mokuba --who was rarely out of Kaiba's sight, she heard, after the murder attempt in October.
Then, they picked up Honda, and he clammed up even further. It might have been the fact that Honda had been picking Yuugi's sense in clothing, all buckles and leather that shouldn't work but did, but her boyfriend grew even more quiet.
Her boyfriend would lean into his seat, as if trying to meld with it, and then when would one of them would talk at him, even if it was in the Japanese he didn't even half understand, he would sit bolt upright, stiff enough that Anzu would wince in sympathy.
When they arrived at the Game Shop, he nearly tumbled out of the car, and Anzu along with him, although her goal was to give Honda and Jounochi a piece of her mind, rather than run away.
They dodged her attempt to grab their ears, and tromped happily into the store. Her boyfriend followed, more grudgingly, and with nervous side-looks to her.
And while the apprehensive look was somewhat cute (she would be the first to say she had it bad, real bad), it was less endearing, as she had told him the complete, unedited story of the Street Vendor's Cart Incident that had happened when she and Yuugi had been all of six. There was no way he could be afraid of Yuugi. He'd had been crying as he laughed on the plane, and everyone had been eyeing them cautiously. This possibly couldn't be more awkward as that!
But when she saw Yuugi's face, serious, tense, but resolved, she began to wonder. Two seconds later, when she saw the deck beside him, she began to worry.
The deck had been been placed almost religiously in the box that had contained the Puzzle pieces, after they had come back from Egypt. Yuugi would haul around the gold box, as heavy as it was, to each of his duels. In fact, he would not take his cards out until he had to duel.
And now they sat at his elbow, the Curse of Dragon face up, as if in play mode, and the Dark Magician was on top of a discard pile.
"Fuck!" she whispered, not caring when her boyfriend looked at her, not sure why she was swearing.

Less than a day later, she didn't have to care about her boyfriend was looking at her funny, as she didn't have a boyfriend. He was already back in the airport, waiting for the next flight out, and as much as Anzu could understand why he wanted to leave, she was still cursing at him.
Yuugi handed her another piece of chocolate, with a resigned look as she viscously crunched it.
"The bastard," she muttered again, trying not to tear up and cry on Yuugi's shoulder again. Her mascara was already wrecked.
Yuugi shrugged. "He was kidnapped."
"We got him back," Anzu snapped. "Hell! I've been kidnapped. That was nothing." Another piece of chocolate was placed in her hand, and she devoured it. She blinked back another urge to cry.
"The magic..." Yuugi started, and then stopped.
"He likes Harry Potter. I thought he might have a chance of handling this!" she snapped, not bothering to care he that he liked books, and not real life drama.
"He was nervous even when he came in," Yuugi tried.
Anzu glared.
Yuugi sighed, and took a piece of chocolate for himself. "That bastard," he agreed, and when Anzu began to cry he held her, not caring what the tears were about, but only that they fell.
